  • What is congestion charge and environmental differentiation rates?

    Congestion charge means that it will cost more to cross the toll point in Oslo during rush-hour. This is known as rush-hour fee.

    Environmental differentiation rates means that those who pollute the most also pay the most at the toll point. In rate group 1, the set rates are divided into el-car, gasoline/hybrid and diesel. In rate group 2, the set rates are divided into Euro VI-standard, Euro V or older.

    If you are unsure about your vehicles environment class, you can check this by finding your vehicle in Vehicle-information on Statens vegvesen webpage.

    Time and environmental differentiation rates will be introduced at the toll point in Oslo on October 1. 2017.

  • How much will it cost to cross the toll point once the congestion charge and environmental differentiation has been introduced?

    The rate group consists of vehicles with an allowed total weight of 3500 kg and category M1 vehicles with a valid agreement.

  • When will congestion charge and environmental differentiation be introduced in Oslo?

    October 1. 2017.

  • Which time period is considered to be rush hour?

    From October 1. 2017 crossing in rush will be registered in the timeframe between 06.30 - 09.00 and 15.00 - 17.00. Rush will not be registered on weekend days (Saturday and Sunday), official holydays and in July. Additionally, Christmas eve, New Year’s Eve and the Wednesday before Easter are exempt from rush. 

  • I drive an el-car - will the changes effect me?

    El-cars will still drive free in Oslo and Bærum with a valid AutoPASS-agreement.

  • Why is congestion charge and environmental differentiation introduced now?

    Oslo and Akershus have ambitious goals regarding the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. The introduction of congestion charge and environmental differentiation rates will contribute to achieving these goals by controlling traffic and financing projects that support the goals. 

  • Who has decided that we shall have congestion charge and environmental differentiation rates?

    Congestion charge and environmental differentiation is determined by the in the Oslo-package 3 agreement that was negotiated in the spring of 2016 between the parties Oslo commune, Akershus provenance commune, Jernbaneverket and Statens vegvesen. The agreement has also been decided by the Parliament in June 2017. The Parliament also decided the Additional-agreement of June 13. 2017, which specifies the changes in the toll rate system in three steps towards 2020.

  • Will there be congestion charge and environmental differentiation in Bærum as well?

    No, not at this time. Time and environmental differentiation is only introduced to the toll point in Oslo.

  • How much discount do I get with a Tag?

    With a Tag, you get a 10 % discount. Additionally, you will only be charged for one crossing per hour and a maximum of 60 crossings per calendar month for each of the toll points in Oslo and Bærum.

  • How are the watches at the toll points adjusted?

    The technical equipment on the toll points has continual time synchronizing against atomic clock. This ensures that registering of crossing time and updating of rate signs are accurate.
